James and Amanda were high school sweethearts in '89. They got married the second they were out of high school and later had their first child, Jared. All was well, until Jared finds out he has another kid named Anna that isn't Amanda's. The only thing that comes to his mind is when he got drunk at a party his senior year while Amanda was home sick. He decides to tell Amanda this and she's not mad, more of happy that she has another child. Only a year of having the two kids home do they realize how close they are, and it's not normal. James and Amanda decide to split up so they can save Jared and Anna's future. James moves across the country with Jared and Amanda stays with Anna, hoping to split the two up so they can lead a normal life. But, only fifteen years later, James comes down with a deadly illness. He doesn't know how much longer he has so he sends his son to live with Amanda and Anna, hoping things won't go back to the way they once were. To Amanda's surprise, Jared and Anna hate each other the moment they lay eyes on one another. A sign of relief, until the two get close and this time, they can't split them up.
